Massive herds of wild manatees are currently pouring into Florida’s warm springs (VIDEO)

’Tis the season for viewing wild manatees in Florida, and Three Sisters Spring is no exception. These slow-moving creatures love to pile into the warm 72-degree springs when the surrounding waters get too cool. Despite the common misconception, they actually have very little blubber to keep them warm when temperatures drop!

I took a trip to the springs over the weekend and can confirm that not only the spring, but also the river inlet, is full of these adorably gentle giants — many of which have their babies with them! So cute!

While I was there I saw an array of visitors partaking in water activities near the manatees, including kayaking, snorkeling, and of course, boating.

While there are many places to see manatees in Florida right now, Crystal River is one of the few places in the state where you can get up close and personal with sea cows — with proper supervision. There’s even a deal allowing you the opportunity to dive around the manatees for just over $30 — and don’t forget your GoPro! Deal info here.

Check out this video of the massive congregations below — you might have to log in to Facebook to view — or see below for another viewing option!
